In response to rising concerns about ocular safety, regulatory bodies are enforcing stricter labeling and usage guidelines for red light therapy devices that employ coherent lasers. These devices, which have been linked to clinical retinal damage and exceed ANSI safety limits in mere seconds, will now require enhanced warnings and a prohibition on intended retinal applications. Furthermore, targeted studies on retinal irradiance thresholds are being commissioned to develop more accurate safety protocols, highlighting the urgent need to address the risks associated with these technologies.
